Aluminum Hard Drive Enclosure

Brand: Silentmaxx
Details:

Introducing the ultimate in hard drive cooling and silencing, the Silentmaxx Aluminum Hard Drive Enclosure. This product is perfect for customers who require something with more cooling power than the Silent Drive and offers better noise reduction than Zalman's ZM-2HC2.

The whole enclosure is manufactured from 100% aluminum, which offers the very best in heat dissipation. So much so that this enclosure is compatible with all hard drive that run at 10,000 RPM or lower. Because the hard drive is completely encased in the enclosure air born noise is exceptionally low.

The Silentmaxx Aluminum Hard Drive Enclosure also includes rubber mounts. This stops any vibrational noise generated by the hard drive being transferred onto the PC chassis. This significantly cuts down on the "rumbling" and "clicking" noises which are very common in hard drives.

Enclosing a hard drive will typically increase its running temperature by around 3-5°C. For peace of mind, it is sometimes useful therefore to be able to monitor the temperature of your hard drive "real time" within Windows, to ensure that the drive is not overheating. For hard drives which support this feature, you can use a free program called DTemp to display the drive temperature in your Windows system tray. We would recommend setting DTemp's "Critical Temperature" setting to around 60-65°C, in line with most manufacturers' specifications.

Hard drive noise can drive you crazy, especially in digital audio workstations. The loud hard drive noise generated by a noisy hard drives can be almost intolerable. Seagate figured out this was a problem, and their newer Barracuda drives are almost silent right out of the box, largely due to a new fluid-bearing design. This combined with a quiet hard drive enclosure can give you silent hard drives. These drives are now common in audio workstations. If you have a noisy drive, you can mount it in a special audio baffle unit that fits in a spare 5-1/4” drive bay such as the original SilentDrive. This quiet hard drive enclosure can help you have a silent hard drive.

You don’t have to suffer through a loud hard drive and hard drive noise. Noisy hard drives are a problem of the past. Get quiet hard drives by installing silent hard drives enclosures. Note that heat builds up quickly in an enclosed space. Using an enclosure works best for 7,200 RPM drives without overheating them until the newer enclosures became available. Inexpensive, stick-on thermal monitors can indicate the drive temperature, which you can check against the manufacturer’s temperature ratings to make sure you’re not cooking the drive. You don’t want to fry your hard drive to eliminate hard drive noise. Noisey hard drives can become quiet hard drives with the right silent hard drives enclosure. 10,000+ RPM drives are much more difficult to silence but it can be done. Be realistic about what kind of track counts you need; a slower drive might create a more pleasant working environment.
